Specialized training for doctors is provided by healthcare providers or other legal entities or individuals accredited by the Ministry of Health in accordance with Act No. 95/2004 Coll. Accredited institutions providing training must ensure that trainees complete the training program. Accreditation may be granted for basic training, specialized training, part of specialized training provided as part of specialized outpatient care, and more. The minimum staffing requirements for healthcare services provided by healthcare providers are set out in Decree No. 99/2012 Coll. and the minimum technical and material equipment requirements for healthcare facilities provided by healthcare providers are set out in Decree No. 92/2012 Coll.
Accreditation levels
Type I accreditation is granted to outpatient facilities that meet the minimum staffing requirements for healthcare services at the given provider.
Type II accreditation is granted to outpatient or inpatient facilities that meet the minimum staffing requirements for healthcare services at the given provider and have the appropriate equipment to perform anterior segment eye surgery.
Type III accreditation is granted to outpatient or inpatient facilities with an outpatient section where care is provided across the entire spectrum of the field. Facilities must meet the minimum staffing requirements for healthcare services at the given provider, have the appropriate equipment to perform anterior and posterior segment eye surgery, and also provide services in the areas of glaucoma treatment, vitreoretinal surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology, and refractive surgery.
Type I accreditation is sufficient for basic training. However, the accreditation requirements for individual workplaces vary in terms of specialized training. Specific requirements can be found in the Bulletin of the given educational program.
